Investing in Zimbabwe

Introduction

Established by an act of Parliament in 1993 by the Government of Zimbabwe to promote and facilitate investment for economic growth in Zimbabwe. The Centre is an autonomous institution that acts as a single window clearance agency for direct private investment. A board appointed by the Government whose membership is largely from the private sector directs the Centre.

Zimbabwe Investment Centre

Functions of the Centre:

  • Co-ordinate and facilitate non-resident project proposals for acceptance
  • Promote investment by domestic and foreign investors
  • Facilitate and service domestic and foreign investors
  • Promote direct business partnerships
  • Promote decentralisation
  • Advise government on investment policy

The Investment Promotion Unit (IPU)

The IPU is a joint venture initiative of Zimbabwe Investment Centre (ZIC) and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) funded by the Japanese Government. The project aims to attract Japanese and South African investors into Zimbabwe. Under the programme, four ZIC staff members and an IPU expert from South Africa will identify and compile a database of projects from around the country and these are promoted in the targeted markets. Inward and outward investment promotion missions will be arranged over the two-year duration of the project. Investors with project for which they are seeking joint venture partners and financing are encouraged to contact the IPU for consideration.

Investor Services:

  • Facilitate investment inquiries
  • Process project applications for registration and approval.
  • Facilitate the issue of necessary certificates, licenses and permits for accepted projects.
  • Assist investors with project implementation.
  • Monitor project compliance with conditions of approval

Marketing and Research:

  • Promote investment in Zimbabwe and abroad.
  • Counsel potential investors on investment opportunities.
  • Provide guidance on industrial capacity, technologies, market demands and ZIC services.
  • Analyse investment policies and formulate recommendations for policy rationalisation and reform.
  • Interact on investment policy and planning issues with private sector and relevant Government organisations.
  • Identify sectors of the economy with potential for direct investment.
