ROADS
Zimbabwe's road network is estimated to exceed 100 000 kilometres, is well maintained to international standards and provides a link to all surrounding countries.
The major road transport routes provide for the movement of thousands of tones of general products from Zimbabwe to South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia in the Southern African region. It also provides transit routes for South African goods being carried north as well as goods travelling south to the main South African ports.
All of the main centres are linked by full width tarred roads and an ongoing government development programme is providing all weather access to many of the smaller centres situated in the rural areas.
The national road system not only caters for commercial traffic but provides fast and safe access to all the major tourist centres throughout the country, with frequent lay-byes (picnic sites) for long-distance travellers.
ROAD HAULAGE AND COMMUTER TRANSPORT
Large fleets of heavy commercial vehicles exist in Zimbabwe and cater for the needs of import and export trade. Zimbabwe's companies operate into all other countries in the region and carry a major proportion of all goods traffic.
Commuter traffic is catered for through large-scale omnibus fleets operating in cities and towns together with a commuter omnibus service which comprises fleets of mini-buses.
Privately operated car hire and taxi fleets have been established throughout the country to cater for tourists, airport commuters, business visitors and the general public.
Speed limits in Zimbabwe are comparatively high with the limit on the open road for passenger cars set at 120 kilometre per hour while the general limit for cities and towns is 60 kilometre per hour.
Investment opportunities exist throughout the industry and in the construction of new national toll roads on a Build Operate and Transfer basis.
AIRWAYS
Air Zimbabwe, the national carrier, operates to all major centres in Zimbabwe and the region as well as to international destinations. The airline operates a modern fleet of aircraft which enables it to compete favourably with the many foreign airlines which fly into Harare International Airport.
Opportunity exists for the investor to provide additional freights services to satisfy the demand to carry specialized produce such as vegetables, flowers and other perishables destined for markets in Europe.
Zimbabwe has commenced a programme of reconstruction of major airports and upgrading of its airport facilities which provide opportunities for the investor.
