The Stock Exchange plays an essential role in the raising of capital funds and as a link between the entrepreneur and the investing public. It provides an organized market place for trading under controlled conditions in the Stocks and Shares of companies which have satisfied the stringent requirements laid down by the listing committee.
The rights and obligations of investors are set out in the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange Act. The interest of both buyers and sellers are both uniform and subject to the agreement of the Treasury.
The number of shares listed is increasing and although the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange is small by world standards investors have a diverse selection of shares to choose from.
The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange provides guidelines for companies to keep both shareholders and the general public informed of their progress and has a policy which provides public disclosure of the fullest information.
For the new investor it should be noted that the regulatory powers of the exchange are based on the contractual agreement each company enters into when it signs the listing agreement.
